William C. Zimmer, 82, of Bedford, died on February 8, 2022.

He was born in Cleveland, Ohio and was the son of the late William and Barbara (Nutter) Zimmer.

Bill spent his early childhood in Ohio and Michigan until his father died suddenly and his mother moved the young family to Reading, Massachusetts, in 1945, to be closer to her own family.

In 1957, he graduated from Reading High School and immediately joined the United States Navy.

He went to Maryland for Naval training and went on to become an electronics technician, assigned to a leader destroyer. While enlisted, he was stationed in Newport, RI which allowed for him to go home and visit his family on days off. He travelled to Portugal and other countries along the Mediterranean during his service. His years in the Navy prepared him well for his future work endeavors.

After his discharge in 1961, he began working at General Electric in Lynn and then for Curtiss-Wright installing flight simulators. He worked for Draper Lab in Cambridge for many years until his retirement.

Bill was a member of the Malden and Wakefield stamp clubs. He loved fixing and driving cars and was known of have multiple cars that he worked on at a time including, Porsche, Volvo, MG and BMWs. He even took a road trip from California to Alaska so that he could experience the drive.

In his retirement he enjoyed travelling with his wife, Mary and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Mary Pierce, his daughters, Linda and her husband Reza Mojtabai of Boxford and Joyce Zimmer of Littleton, his grandchildren, Ali, Amir and Sophia Mojtabai, sister, Marjorie Crean of Portsmouth, NH, nieces and nephews, Edwin C. Crean, Deborah Jean Krause and Barbara Anne Crean and great niece and nephews, Haley and Cullen Crean and Zella Krause.

He was predeceased by his first wife, Martha (Kirkland) Zimmer and his brother, Charles Zimmer.
