Obituary

William "Bill" T. Barnett, 85, a lifelong resident of Bedford, died on July 31, 2016, following a brief illness.

He was born to William H. Barnett and Flora E. (Brigham) Barnett and was the oldest of four children.

He joined the United States Navy, proudly serving his country from 1948 to 1952 aboard the USS Yarnall (DD-541) during the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Barnett worked in Bedford at the Post Office and directing traffic, with his brother, John Barnett for many years. After his retirement he drove for a livery company.

In 1956, he married Ada Grace Harrison from Carlisle. They had two sons, William T. Barnett Jr. in 1957 and Jeffrey Dean Barnett in 1964. In 1971 they divorced and in 1978 he married Rosemary Trant.

He also coached youth baseball for all his son's teams.

He is survived by his wife, Rosemary (Collins) Barnett, his sister, Constance (Connie) Ashworth, his two sons, William T. Barnett Jr. and wife Denise, Jeffrey Dean Barnett, his step sons Steve Trant and Dave Trant and step daughter Deborah, his grandson, William David Barnett and granddaughter Melissa Grace Barnett. He was predeceased by his brother, John Barnett in 2015.

Visitation will be held at the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Rd., Bedford, on Thursday, August 4, from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. A graveside service will be held at Shawsheen Cemetery, 15 Shawsheen Rd., Bedford, on Friday, August 5, at 9:30 A.M.
