William "Bill" J. Slavin, 70, of Bedford, died on January 28, 2018, surrounded by his loving family.
Bill was known to most as "Slapper", a name that many are still unsure how it truly came about.
He was the only child of the late William J. and Marion (Kelly) Slavin.
Bill grew up in Watertown and attended St. Patrick School all the way through grade school and high school. He then attended UMass Lowell where he received his associate degree in Civil Engineering.
Bill was a member of the National Guard, the Bedford American Legion Post 221 and the Lexington Elks Lodge.
In 1975, Bill moved to Bedford to raise his family and lived there for 42 years.
He worked as an engineer in the city of Watertown as well as Sudbury. He later left civil engineering to pursue kitchen design, opening his own business in Natick, called South Natick Cabinetry.
He loved going to any warm climate, especially Aruba and Maine and Cape Cod in the summer months. He enjoyed attending and cheering on his children and grandchildren at their sporting events and working in his vegetable garden.
He will be missed by his beloved wife of 45 years, Wendy (Malkasian) Slavin, his daughters and their husbands, Tara Taylor and John of Framingham and Erin Tate and Jonathan of Hollis, NH, his grandchildren, Ryen, Jack and Brooklyn Taylor and James and Tyler Tate as well as many family and friends.
Funeral from the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Rd., Bedford, on Saturday, February 3, at 8:00 AM, followed by a funeral Mass in St. Michael Church, 90 Concord Rd., Bedford, at 9:00 AM.
Visitation at the funeral home, on Friday, February 2, from 4:00-8:00PM.
Interment at St. Patrick Cemetery in Watertown.
