William E. Murphy Jr., 91, recently of Plymouth, died at the E. N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital at the David James Hospice Wing on April 19, 2017.
He was born in Somerville and was the son of the late William E. and Ellen A. ( McCloskey) Murphy.
Mr. Murphy proudly served in the U.S. Army during World War II from 1943 until 1945 with Company C 60thI Infantry Regiment. He received a Purple Heart and spent many months recuperating in Germany after being wounded.
After returning from the service, he completed high school at Cambridge High and Latin. He had lived in Cambridge and Waltham and most recently at the Stafford Hill Assisted Living in Plymouth.
Mr. Murphy was a car salesman for fifty years and had worked at many dealerships including Scott Motors and Porter Square Dodge in Cambridge, Rowe Chevrolet in Lexington and he retired from Sentry in Medford.
He enjoyed grilling and singing and loved to entertain those around him.
He was predeceased by his wife, Patricia A. (Doyle) Murphy, his son, William "Kippy" Murphy III and siblings, Jean Jones, Paul Murphy, Helen Riley and Robert Murphy.
He is survived by his daughter, Karen Holt and her husband, David of East Falmouth, his son, Colin Murphy of Waltham, six grandchildren, Matthew Holt of NYC, Christopher Holt of East Falmouth, Stephanie Murphy of Bourne, Briana Murphy of Bedford, Jacqueline and Christine Murphy of Southbridge and great granddaughter Gabby Benoit.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 24, at St. John the Evangelist Church, 841 Shore Rd. Pocasset at 9:00 A.M.
Burial will follow at the Massachusetts National Cemetery in Bourne.
