William G. Chamberlain, 88, of Bedford, died on September 15, 2012, following a lengthy illness.

Mr. Chamberlain was born in Wollaston, Mass. on January 26, 1924, to the late Judson and Doris (Parker) Chamberlain.

He was a graduate of Medford High School, Class of 1942 and he received his B.S. in Education as well as his master's degree from Boston University

Prior to completing his education, he enlisted in the U.S. Navy and served during World War II from1942 until 1945.

Mr. Chamberlain was a physical education teacher at the Newton Weeks Junior High School for 37 years. He was also a longtime coach of the football and tennis teams.

A Bedford resident since 1952, he served for 4 years as the Director of the Recreation Department.

He is survived by his wife, Jean A. (Tidd) Chamberlain, two children and their spouses, Peter Chamberlain and Shelley of Lexington and Jill Groener and John of Harvard, four grandchildren, Heidi, Holly, Laura Beth and Adam, and four great grandchildren, John, Lindsay, David and Drew.

He was predeceased by his son, David Chamberlain.

His funeral service will be held at the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital Chapel, 200 Springs Rd., Bldg. 81, Bedford, on Saturday, Sept. 22, at 11:00 A.M.
