He was a devout member of St. Michael Parish where over the years he served as a lector, eucharistic minister, a religious education instructor and was a member of the finance committee.

Walter was an avid sports fan, supporting all the local Boston sports teams and the Notre Dame fighting Irish. When his children were young, Walter coached baseball in the Bedford Babe Ruth baseball league.

In retirement, Walter enjoyed traveling with his wife to Florida in the winter. He also volunteered at the Friends of Bedford Depot Park where he served as their treasurer up until his passing. He enjoyed spending time with his 5 grandchildren.
