Thomas (Tom) Talcott Mix of McLean, Virginia died peacefully on November 24, 2022 at his home.  He was 80 years old.

Tom was born in October 1942 in Concord, Massachusetts to the late Norman C. and Mary (Talcott) Mix. Raised in Bedford, MA, Tom graduated from Bedford High School in 1961. He joined the Air Force in 1962 and completed boot camp at Lackland Air Force Base, in San Antonio, TX. During his time in the Air Force he attended the Air Force Tech School at Keesler Air Force Base in Biloxi, Mississippi to learn Morse Code, was stationed at Ramstein Air Base in Germany and at the Northeast Cape Air Force Station in St. Lawrence Island, Savoonga, Alaska.

He left the Air Force in 1966 and was recruited to work in communications at the Central Intelligence Agency. In a fortuitous turn of events, Tom met Linda Anne MacGregor while playing basketball in Bedford one evening. The two dated briefly and decided to marry, embarking on a lifetime of adventures in April 1967. They traveled around the world for 28 years, serving a total of six tours overseas in Africa, S.E. Asia, and Central America.

Tom retired from the CIA in 1994 after 32 years of service, continuing on with the agency to work in logistics in retirement. After Linda's death in 1995, Tom married in 1998 to Sarah Templeton.  The two were married for 12 years.

Tom is preceded in death by his parents, sister Ky (Caroline) Gordon, brother Patrick D. Mix, and beloved wife Linda Anne MacGregor Mix. He is survived by his two children, Tamara L. Mix and her husband Jeffrey Hartman of Stillwater, Oklahoma and Susan R. M. Vasquez and husband Adam Vasquez of Great Falls, VA; and his four grandchildren, Gray, Lena, Brid and Nora. He is also survived by his siblings Carl Mix and Jane Sinkes.

Tom was immensely proud of his daughters and the lives they had built with their families. He lived life on his terms, full of travel, stories, and laughter. Tom was active throughout his life and enjoyed basketball, rugby, softball, skiing, and running. He was a valued teammate, cherished friend, and loving family member and father. He will be missed.

Visitation will be held at Money & King Funeral home, 171 Maple Ave W, Vienna, VA 22180 on Tuesday, November 29, 2022, from 6:00-8:00 p.m. A funeral service will be held graveside at Shawsheen Cemetery, 1 Shawsheen Rd, Bedford, MA on Friday, December 2, at 11:00 a.m.
