Susan B.
Dedeo
Aug 21, 1946 — Oct 23, 2025
Susan B. DeDeo, 79, of Billerica, died on October 23, 2025, less than three weeks after her husband, Gary DeDeo.
Susan was born in Hartford, Connecticut, and grew up in Bloomfield, the second of five children of Richard Bishop and AnnaBelle Hultslander Bishop. She excelled academically at Bloomfield High School and went on to attend the University of Connecticut, where she studied English and Education.
After graduating with her BA in 1968, she chose not to pursue a career in education but instead moved across the country to California. Over the next three years, she lived in San Francisco, Los Angeles, and San Diego. In 1971, she returned to the East Coast, via a memorable cross-country trip with a friend and one of her sisters, and settled in Boston.
Set up by mutual friends, she and Gary DeDeo first met at Copperfield's in Kenmore Square and attended the movie Butterflies Are Free on their first date in 1972. They married in 1975 and, after renting an apartment in Winthrop for a few years, purchased their forever-home in Billerica in 1978.
Susan worked in finance for several years at Mass Financial before stepping back from work to raise children. She was an active and engaged member of St. Mark's Church in Burlington, where she served on the Vestry and taught Sunday school for many years. She also served as a Girl Scout leader and as the head of the Vining School PTA.
Susan resumed her career in the late 1980s, first at BayBank and then at the MITRE Corporation in Bedford. She worked for many years as a benefits specialist at MITRE, often traveling to Washington, DC, to lead new-employee benefits orientations.
After retiring from MITRE, Susan enjoyed caring for her grandsons, attending her children's running races, reading books, spending time with her cat, Bella, and traveling with her husband. She was an avid walker, often averaging four miles a day, and enjoyed getting coffee with her husband after taking walks on the Minuteman bike path.
She is survived by her daughter, Carrie-Anne DeDeo, of Somerville; her son, Scot DeDeo, of Belmont; Scot's wife, Amy DeDeo; Scot and Amy's sons, Neil and Nat DeDeo; her sisters Linda Needham of Bristol, Connecticut, Cynthia Doucette of Cape Elizabeth, Maine, Debbie Brunelle of Walpole, New Hampshire, and her brother, Keith Bishop, of East Hartland, Connecticut.
Funeral services for Susan and Gary will be held on Saturday, November 22, at 11:30am at St. Paul's Church, 100 Pine Hill Road, in Bedford, Massachusetts, with burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Michael J. Fox Foundation at https://www.michaeljfox.org/
