Stephen B. Elder, 83, of Bedford died on January 5, 2017, in Burlington.

Mr. Elder was born in Newton on November 9, 1933, and was one of twelve children of the late George and Thelma (Pope) Elder.
He was raised in West Medway and served in the US Army during the Post-Korea era.

He had lived in Bedford since 1957 and was employed as an engineer with Raytheon for 35 years.

Mr. Elder was very active in the Bedford community. He was a member of the Lions Club, former member of the Conservation Commission, a member of the Community Chorus and in 1975 was a founding member of the Bedford Minutemen. He also served as a Scout Master for Troop 116.

He was the loving husband of Jo Ann (Moore) Elder, devoted father of Deborah Oldfield and her husband Kent of Fitchburg, dear grandfather of Alyssa and Ariana Aukstikalnis of Fitchburg and brother of Geneva Smith of Ohio and Jean Chamberlin of NH and the late Judith Scott, Diane Piacentini, Hugh, David, John, Robert, Andrew, Donald and Dustin Elder.

A private service was held for family.
