Obituary

Shirley A. Skinner, 93, of Bedford, died on September 30, 2017, in Concord.

Mrs. Skinner was born in Lowell on February 4, 1924, and she was the daughter of the late James W. and Charlotte H. (Young) Kinghorn.

She was raised in Lowell and was a graduate of Lowell Memorial High School. In the summer of 1953 while vacationing with friends at Hampton Beach, NH, Shirley met Kenneth G. Skinner at a saltwater taffy candy shop. After a yearlong courtship, they were married in 1954 at St. Rita Church in Lowell.

Mrs. Skinner attended St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church in Acton. She enjoyed camping in Maine, square and round dancing, playing bingo and cards, lawn darts and outdoor fairs.

She is survived by her husband of 63 years, Kenneth, two daughters and their husbands, Cynthia Harrington and James of Acton, Debra Towle and Leo of Westford, three grandchildren, David Harrington and his wife, Erin and Michael Harrington and his wife Ariana and Stephen Harrington and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her brothers, Wilbur, Clifford and Donald Kinghorn and her sister Janet Mier.

Her funeral Mass will be held at St. Elizabeth of Hungary Church, 89 Arlington St., Acton, on Sat., Oct. 7 at 11:00 A.M. Visitation will be held at the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Rd., Bedford, on Fri., Oct. 6, from 3:00-7:00 P.M.
