Ruth A. (Kelley) Hartwell, age 93, a lifelong resident of Bedford died on April 12, 2014, at the Emerson Hospital in Concord.

She was the beloved wife of the late Richard W. Hartwell, Sr.

Loving mother of Richard W. Hartwell of Atlanta, GA, Ann Marie Sampson of Stoneham, Barbara R. Hartwell of Bedford and Kevin M. Hartwell of Litchfield, NH. Devoted grandmother of Christopher Hartwell Sampson, Kevin Michael Harwell and Jake Walker Hartwell.

Ruth was born in Bedford on February 21, 1921. She was a graduate of Katherine Gibbs College and also pursued her love of music attending the Boston Conservatory of Music.

Very active in the Bedford community, she was a member of St. Michael Church and Council of Aging in Bedford where she participated in the Songs Birds program.

Ruth had a great love for children which she demonstrated through working as a kindergarten aid for the Bedford School System and also at the Hanscom Air Force Base Child Care Center.

Her funeral will be held from the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Rd., Bedford on Wednesday, April 16 at 9 AM, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Michael Church, 90 Concord Rd., Bedford, at 10 AM. Visitation at the funeral home on Tuesday, April 15 from 5 to 8 PM.
