Obituary

Robert J. Murphy, 89, of Bedford, died on June 24, 2017, in Arlington following a lengthy illness.

He was born in Cambridge, MA and was the son of the late Peter and Elizabeth (Mooney) Murphy. He was also predeceased by his siblings, David, John and Ronald Murphy, Ruth Foster and Mary Lynch.

Raised in Cambridge, he was a graduate of St. Mary's High School in Waltham and had attended St. Anselm College in New Hampshire for 2 years.

He was a Navy veteran of World War II and he also served during the Korean Conflict.

Mr. Murphy was known as "Bob" to family and friends and he had lived in Bedford for 37 years. He was employed as a production control supervisor for Raytheon until his retirement. He enjoyed golfing and bowling.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Nancy H. (Sutherland) Murphy, three children, Bruce Murphy and his wife, Lora Goldenberg of Bedford, daughter, Lisa Murphy of Greenville, NH and Matthew Murphy of Bedford, grandson, Colin Murphy and his wife, Lisa of Maynard and granddaughter, Hannah Murphy of Nashville, TN.

Visitation will be held at the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Rd., Bedford, on THURS., June 29 from 4:00 to 6:00 P.M. A funeral service will follow at 6:30 P.M.
