Obituary

Robert F. Gerbrands, of Bedford, died on February 8, 2024.

He was the son of the late Ralph and Rhoda (Lee) Gerbrands.

He was raised in Arlington and was a member of Arlington High School Class of 1960.

Following graduation, he received his bachelor's degree from Nichols College in Dudley and MBA from Babson College in Wellesley.

For several years, he worked at the company started by his father, The Gerbrands Corporation in Arlington as a financial officer.

After leaving the company, he began volunteering at the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital, in Bedford assisting homeless veterans. He found this work meaningful and was eventually hired as a case manager.

He was married 58 years ago to Mary Louise Boardman at Our Lady of Good Voyage Church in Gloucester, MA.

Active in the community, he coached soccer, was a past President of the Lexington Minuteman Square Dance Group, participated in the Council on Aging and worked on various political campaigns in Bedford.

He is survived by his wife, Mary (Boardman) Gerbrands, his children, Wendy Gerbrands and her husband Sam Edlati of Billings, MT, Charles Gerbrands and his wife Lisa of Bellingham, MA and Gretchen Gerbrands of Laguna Niguel, CA and his grandchildren, Max and Madeline Solorio and Alyssa and Ryan Gerbrands. He was predeceased by his brothers, Ralph and Ronald Gerbrands.

Memorial contributions can be made to the VA Bedford Healthcare System, 200 Springs Road, Bedford, Massachusetts 01730.

A private family Celebration of Life will be held.
