Richard Anthony Stevens was born on July 1, 1954 to James I. and Agnes M. Stevens in Bartlesville, OK. He was the third of four children having a sister Janet and a brother Michael when he was born. The family moved to Idaho Falls, ID, when he was 2 years old. A second sister, Mary Ann, was born there. When he was 8 years old, the family moved to Tucson, AZ. The final relocation came in 1967 when the family moved to Bedford, MA. He has lived in the same home since then.
He attended Bedford schools and graduated from Bedford High School in 1973, He went on to attend ITT Technical school where he received an associate's degree in electronics technology. He worked as an electronics technician at LSE, ARP and FMI. He retired in 2020 from Hobbs Brook Management LLC. During his 16 years with the organization, he worked in the food service division at their location in Norwood, MA.
He enjoyed taking photographs, working word search puzzles and playing with the cats who were frequent visitors when he and his sister "cat sat" for family and friends when they went on extended vacations. For 30 years he worked as a volunteer in the religious education program at St. Michael Parish. He initially served as an audio/video aid. Later he was the chief hall monitor. He also served as a volunteer at the VA Medical Center in Bedford where he assisted with preparations for Mass on Saturday afternoons.
He died suddenly on February 25, 2025. He is predeceased by his parents. He is survived by his three siblings: Janet Stevens of Bedford, Mike Stevens of Ridgecrest, CA and Mary Ann Stevens of Chelmsford.
Visitation will be on Monday, March 3, from 5 to 7 pm at the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 The Great Road. A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Tuesday, March 4, at 10 am St. Michael Parish, 90 Concord Road.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate gifts in his memory to the Society of St. Vincent de Paul, St. Michael Parish, 90 Concord Road, Bedford, MA 01730.
