Richard A. Dutra, 88, of Bedford, died on April 1, 2022, after a brief illness.

Born in 1933, Richard was the son of the late Augustus and Agnes (Slowe) Dutra. He was raised in Somerville and was a graduate of Somerville High School Class of 1951.

Following high school, he served in the Army as a medic in Germany during the Korean Conflict and was honorably discharged as a corporal in 1955.

Mr. Dutra received his bachelor's degree from Northeastern University.

He worked as a contract manager for the United States Postal Service until his retirement. He was an active member of St. Michael Parish in Bedford, where he attended Mass every morning and had many friends.

Besides his family, his biggest passion in life was Cape Cod, where he had a home in West Yarmouth. What he loved most was sharing this home with his family, where they would vacation every summer.

He is survived by his sisters, Claire and Mary "Marie" Dutra of Bedford and was predeceased by his brother, Philip Dutra and sister-in-law, Joan (Fitzpatrick) Dutra. He is also survived by his four nieces who were like children to him, Meg Flaherty and her partner Michael Michaud, Joanne Murphy and her husband Tim, Susan Kimmell and Pam Brady and her husband Tom and 12 grandnieces and grandnephews.

Funeral from the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Rd., Bedford, on Saturday, April 9, at 8:00 AM followed by a Mass of Christian burial at St. Michael Church, 90 Concord Rd., Bedford, at 9:00 A.M. Burial will be at Shawsheen Cemetery.
