Peter James Manning of Concord, MA, and Harwich, MA, passed away on October 30, 2026, at the age of 87. He was born on February 16, 1939, the son of the late Peter J. and Mabel Manning of Arlington, MA.
He is survived by the love of his life of 64 years, Linda (Strapp) Manning. Their marriage held a lifetime of love, faith, and family in its center, never lacking laughter and a new adventure to take on together, often with any number of close friends and family.
Peter was blessed with many gifts including six children and fifteen grandchildren, who remained close and provided constant joyful energy during the days and nights at homes in Concord, MA, Harwich Port, MA, and Naples, FL. Peter’s connection to all things Boston, particularly the Boston College community and the Boston business network provided a lifetime and career of friendships and endless camaraderie.
He was the devoted father of Debra Lundquist and her husband Eric of Boxborough, MA; Peter Manning, Jr. and his wife Kristen of Bedford, MA; Lisa Earley and her husband Seth of Carlisle, MA; Christopher Manning and his wife Terry of Concord, MA; Caren Venuti of Bedford, MA; and Tracey Marano and her husband Marc of Concord, MA. He was the proud grandfather of Brendan and Karalyn Lundquist, and Kathryn (Lundquist) Otero and her husband Victor Otero, Peter III, Mary, and Nicholas Manning, Chelsea Tenan, Jack and Liam Manning, Erin and Lauren Venuti, Emily, Madelyn, Michael, and Abigail Marano.
A graduate of Boston College and Babson College, Peter built a distinguished career in financial services that began as a C.P.A. at Coopers & Lybrand. He later served as a longtime executive, including Chief Financial Officer and Vice Chairman at First National Bank of Boston and later, Bank of America. He was a board member of Thermo Fisher Scientific and Safety Insurance and a longtime advisor to the Caritas Christi healthcare network. He also served as a member of the U.S. Air National Guard and on the School Committee of the Town of Bedford.
An avid golfer, he was a member of Lexington Golf Club, Eastward Ho! Country Club, and Concord Country Club, and was an honorary member and founder of TPC Boston. Son of a golf professional, the game was a constant in his life. Through this lifelong passion for the game, he cherished the great friendships made on the golf course, whether these were business colleagues, competitors, of the constant “friendly” matches with his growing family of golfers. He held a deep love for Cape Cod, where he delighted in constant family gatherings and, there, his grandchildren’s presence was a constant source of joy and excitement; the time spent with them filled his heart with countless happy memories, all of which ended in some way with loud renditions of “Sweet Caroline”.
A devoted Boston College alumnus, he spent decades supporting his alma mater through countless tailgates, fundraisers, and the broader network of BC Athletics, remaining a steadfast and enthusiastic presence in the B.C. community.
He was a member of Holy Family Parish in Concord, MA, and St. Michael Church in Bedford, MA.
Visitation will be held on Thursday, November 5, 2026, from 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Road, Bedford, MA. A funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Michael Church, 90 Concord Road, Bedford, MA, on Friday, November 6, 2026, at 10:00 a.m.
