Peter T. Haritos CMSgt. USAF Ret., of Bedford died on May 21, 2014. Peter was born on January 6, 1924 in Boston to Theodore and Catherine (Langadinos) Haritos.
Peter graduated from the Mechanic Arts High School in 1941 and attended Northeastern University. He earned a Professional Engineer's License in 1961.
As part of the greatest generation, Peter left college to join the U.S. Army Air Corps where he was stationed in North Africa and Italy and participated in 50 missions in Europe, including Ploesti Raids. Peter's military career included active participation of great intensity throughout WWII. He functioned as an Engineer Gunner and he was awarded the Air Medal plus the Meritorious Service Medal for his courage and defense of the country he loved. Upon returning home, Peter continued serving in the USAF Reserves from which he retired with the rank of Chief Master Sergeant. Peter was an active member of the 98th Bomb Group.
He began his career at Textron (formerly AVCO Corporation) in 1958 at the Lawrence, MA facility. He gave Textron over 30 years of devoted service in various finance and engineer capacities, finally retiring from the Materials and Non-Destructive Testing Department.
Peter is survived by his loving wife of 44 years Dolores J. Haritos, his brother-in-law, Christopher C. Skambis, Peter's sister, Anne and his brother, John predeceased him. Peter is also survived by 2 nieces and 4 nephews.
His funeral service will be held at the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 The Great Rd., Bedford, on Tues. May 27, at 11 A.M. Visitation will be on Mon. May 26, from 6 to 8 P.M. at the funeral home. Interment to be held at Shawsheen Cemetery with military honors.
