Obituary

Paul "Scott" Hutton, age 77 of Lexington, after enduring nearly a decade with Alzheimer's, passed peacefully on June 14, 2023.

Born in Hampton Virginia to the late Elbert McKinley Hutton, Jr. and Margaret Vestal Hutton, and brother of the late Kathryn Hutton Frawley. Scott was a graduate of Hampton Sydney College, William & Mary College Law School, and New York University's Graduate Tax Program. Tax Law and politics fed his mind and formed the basis of his professional working life, spanning from the mid-1970s at the NYC law firm, Webster and Sheffield, to the MA DOR from which he retired in 2015. However, as a Tidewater Virginia boy, it was the water, specifically sailing, that fed his soul. "Any day on or in the water is a good day!"

His greatest love was his family whom he leaves behind: his wife and copilot of 50 years, Mary (Schmiedel) Hutton; his daughter, Molly Allison Alamsetti, her husband Sanjay and their children, Olivia and Michael; his son, Robert Scott Hutton, his wife Rachel and their children, Connor and Evie, as well as a much loved brother-in-law, William Schmiedel, and his wife Patricia; nephew Billy Schmiedel and his family and nieces, Nicki Schmiedel, Mimi Seyler, and Cory Blair. In every respect, throughout his life, he put his family first. They were his joy, and even in the darkest days of the disease, a mere mention of his grandchildren would spark a twinkle in his wonderful blue eyes and light up his entire face with a smile. He never lost this joy, nor his sense of humor.

A private service for the family has been held at the Westview Cemetery in Lexington, and a celebration of life will be planned at a future date.
