Obituary

Norma J. (White) Hirst, 94, of Bedford died on February 24, 2015, following a brief illness.

Mrs. Hirst was born in Sturbridge, Mass. on February 13, 1921, the daughter of the late Dana and Etta F. (Gray) White, sister of the late Marjorie (White) Jackson and brother Winthrop Wendell White.

She was a descendant of Peregrine White, the first child born on the Mayflower, and whose grandson was granted the Salem Cross Inn in West Brookfield in the early 1700s.
She was also a descendant of Oliver Wendell Holmes.

Mrs. Hirst had lived in Bedford since 1956, losing her husband Thomas in 2011. She was a longtime member of the First Church of Christ, Congregational, a Red Cross volunteer and a member of the Bedford Garden and Women's Clubs. She was very artistic and enjoyed painting, playing Bridge and traveling.

She is survived by nieces; Norma Gerrie of Bedford, NH, Patricia Packard of Moultonborough, NH and Marilyn White of Newburyport, her nephews Dana White of Natick and Douglas White of Lowell and several Great and Grand nieces and nephews.
