On Wednesday, March 18, 2015, at 9:15 AM, Norma Ann Barton (Green), passed on peacefully with her family by her side after a short hospital stay for a brief terminal illness. She was 83 years old.

She was born on April 7, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois, the second oldest of six siblings. Norma attended public schools on the Southside of Chicago, and went on to attend Chicago Teachers College. Prior to graduating, she was offered a position as a flight attendant for TWA.

Based in San Francisco in 1958, she was introduced to a young Marine First Lt., Robert Avery Barton. It was love at first sight. Their song has always been, "I left my heart in San Francisco". They were married on February 7, 1959, in Evanston, IL.

Norma and Robert eventually settled in Bedford, MA, to raise a family. They had two sons, Stephen and Daniel. When her boys entered high school, Norma graduated from the New England School of Art and Design and started her own interior design business, NorBar Interiors. She operated her business for the next twenty years, renovating and remodeling countless commercial and residential properties.

Norma's life love was her family. She always made it a priority to stay in touch with her brothers and sisters who lived all over the country. She delighted in the planning and celebrating of all the holidays and other family events and gatherings. She loved spending her summers at the family cottage on Long Island, Maine, reading on the porch overlooking Casco Bay and strolling the beaches gathering sea shells. Apart from her family and her work, her passions were travel and entertaining. Norma and Bob had a large and eclectic circle of friends and led a very active social life. In terms of travel, the world was her oyster, from China to Australia, Israel, Russia, Peru, Morocco, Turkey, all of Europe and her beloved time share on the Isle of Maderia. An eternal optimist, her smile would light up every room. Her gift was a talent for making every person feel special and important to her. She will be missed by all who knew her.

Norma is survived by her husband of 56 years, retired Judge Robert A. Barton, her sons and daughters-in-law, Stephen and Paula (Brito) of Dracut, and Daniel and Alisa (Bishop) of Groton, grandchildren Christopher, Maxwell, Jacqueline and Addison Barton, brothers Martin, Donald and Raymond, her sister Grace Green and numerous nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her sister Ruth Davis.

Visitation will be held at the Bedford Funeral Home on Sunday, March 22, from 3:00 to 7:00 P.M. Her funeral Mass will be celebrated in St. Michael Church, 90 Concord Rd., Bedford, on Monday, March 23, at 10:00 A.M.
