Obituary

Mary J. Ignazio, 90, of Bedford, and formerly of Cambridge, died suddenly on August 8, 2021.

She was born on February 7, 1931, in Cambridge and was the daughter of the late Michael and Anna (Della Cioppa) Messuri.

Mrs. Ignazio was a graduate of Cambridge Rindge and Latin School and was a resident of the city until 2011. She was married in 1951 at St. Peter's Church to Joseph L. Ignazio and together they raised six children.

Prior to her marriage, she worked in Boston and helped her family in the daily operations of her parent's busy grocery store, Federal Market on Concord Ave. in Cambridge.

After her children were in school, she worked for Meals-on-Wheels as a driver and loved the daily visits with the clients she served. Often, her mother drove along with her as they journeyed through East Cambridge.

She was a devoted wife and mother and especially cherished the time spent with her grandchildren.

She was a longtime parishioner at St. Peter's Church in Cambridge.

Mrs. Ignazio was the beloved wife of the late Joseph L. Ignazio who died in 2016.

She was the devoted mother of Edward A. Ignazio and his wife Eileen of Plymouth, the late Annemarie Andon and her surviving spouse, Steve of Waltham, Susan Frazier and her husband Patrick of Bedford, John "Jack" Ignazio of Arlington,  Nancy Griffiths and her husband James of Bedford, and Jim Ignazio and his wife Stephanie of Acton, dear sister of Peter Messuri and his wife Barbara and Anthony Messuri and his wife Annette both of Arlington and the late Phyllis Carbone, and Gilda and Augustino Messuri, loving grandmother of Lisa and Daniel Ignazio, Kathryn Andon, Patrick, Stephen and Brittany Frazier, Gabrielle, Ian and Collin Griffiths and Julia and Mia Ignazio. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews and beloved friends and caretakers.

Her funeral will be held from the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 The Great Rd., Bedford, on Thursday, August 12, at 9:00 AM, followed by a funeral Mass in St. Michael Church, 90 Concord Rd., Bedford at 10:00 AM.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Wednesday, August 11, from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Multiple Sclerosis Society, 101 A First Ave., Suite 6, Waltham, MA 02451.
