Obituary

Margaret Loizeaux Engel (Bird or Peggy) died at Carlton-Willard, Bedford, Mass., on August 3, 2024.

She was born in 1930 to the late J. Harold Loizeaux and Marion Foster Loizeaux, the eldest of four siblings who grew up in rural Scotch Plains, N.J., between the Depression and WWII. She is survived by her sister Sonia of Bedford, Mass., sister Christine of Santa Barbara, Calif., and her sister-in-law Elisabeth, wife of her brother the late Peter Loizeaux of Concord, Mass.

A year after her graduation from Vassar in 1953, she married the late David E. Engel, an ordained Presbyterian minister and professor for many years at the University of Pittsburgh.

She is survived by their three children, Stephen and his wife Susan of Winchester, Mass., Alexandra and her husband Richard Edgecombe of Pittsburgh, Pa., and Peter and his wife Lyra of Freeport, Maine. She is also survived by her three granddaughters, Alison Engel Hill, Rebecca Engel and Margaret Edgecombe, and two great-grands, Lilah Hill and Jamie Hill.

Her life will be celebrated Monday, Sept. 9, at 3:15 p.m. during the monthly memorial service at Carlton-Willard Village. Burial was in Southwest Harbor.
