Louise Stires Curtis, longtime Unitarian Music Director Of Lexington, MA, passed away on July 1, 2022 at Carleton-Willard village in Bedford, MA.

She was born in New York City, NY January 8, 1922 to Ernest van Renselaer Stires and Louise Homer Stires, she graduated from the Cathedral School of Saint Mary with the class of 1938 and attended Baylor University as a member of the class of 1942.

After a few years of working in New York and studying voice with her grandmother, Metropolitan Opera star Louise Homer, she married Army Air Corps Major Robert C. Curtis in December 1944.

After moving to Lexington in 1958, she joined the Follen Community Church and became the director of the youth choir and soon after, the adult choir. In this position, and later as Music Director and Minister of Music, she served the church and the community for over fifty years, preparing and conducting a range of sacred and secular works in the church, and producing a series of Gilbert and Sullivan operettas.

She is survived by a daughter, Joy Madden of Acton, MA, and sons Richard of Groton, MA and John of Newburyport, MA; seven grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
