Louis R. Musacchio, Lt. Col. USAF (Retired), 94, of Bedford, died on September 2, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born in New York City and was the son of the late Ernest and Lillian (DeGaetano) Musacchio. He enlisted in the Army in 1943 and served with the 3021 st Army Air Force during WW2, and remained in the Air Force Reserves retiring in 1985 as a Lieutenant Colonel. After WW2, he attended Pratt Institute, in New York, and studied mechanical engineering where he received a BSME. During the 1960's he was recalled to active duty multiple times by the Air Force serving during the Cuban Missile crisis, and the Vietnam War.
Louis was an engineer by schooling, and spent his whole career doing what he loved best, working in the aerospace industry. In addition to his experience as a pilot, he worked for the FAA as the director of Engine Safety Standards. He, along with his loving wife Estelle, raised a close-knit family in Massapequa, NY and Bedford, MA.
He was predeceased by his beloved wife Estelle (Pastore) Musacchio and sister Mary Gennaro. He is survived by his four loving children, Rich (Sue) Musacchio of Bedford, John (Joyce) Musacchio of Acton, MaryLou Buckley (Michael Cormier) of Atkinson, NH, and Gina (John) Balunas of Northborough; seven cherished grandchildren Jeffrey (Elizabeth) Musacchio, Lauren (Scott) McGrath, Andrew (Patti) Musacchio, Christine (Gregory) Console, Nicole (Henry) Matos, Katherine (Meghan) Balunas, and Anne Balunas and his great grandson Connor McGrath.
Visitation will take place at the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Rd., Bedford, on Thurs., Sept. 5, from 4:00-8:00 PM. Graveside services will be held at Shawsheen Cemetery, corner of Great Rd. and Shawsheen Rd., Bedford, on Fri., Sept. 6, at noon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Lahey Health at Home and Hospice , Champions of Care, Attn: Philanthropy, 41 Mall Rd., Burlington, MA 01805.
