Lorraine "Chickie" (Gibbings) Hansen, of Bedford, MA, died peacefully in the Harbor unit at The Commons in Lincoln, MA, on October 20, 2017, at the age of 80.

Lorraine was born on July 24, 1937, in Springfield, MA to Leslie and Marie Gibbings.

She was a graduate of Cathedral High School in Springfield, MA. She went on to complete nursing school and joined the U.S. Air Force in 1959 as an officer and registered nurse.

In 1961, she met and married Donald Hansen, another officer in the U.S. Air Force, while they were both serving at Sheppard Air Base in Texas. In 1962, she left the Air Force to raise her growing family.

In 1974, once her children had grown, she returned to nursing and worked at many hospitals over the years including, Emerson Hospital, in Concord, Symmes Hospital in Arlington, and Lahey Hospital in Burlington.  She also worked several years caring for the elderly at Carleton-Willard in Bedford, ultimately retired from nursing in 1990.

After retirement, Lorraine worked part-time at Decelles, in Lexington, and enjoyed the time spent with her grandchildren and family and working in her beloved flower garden.

Lorraine is survived by her son, Chris Hansen of Bedford, MA, three daughters, Deb Hansen of Concord, MA, Sue Hansen of Bedford, MA and Cathy Oram and her husband Bill of Pelham, NH, granddaughter, Kate Oram, and grandsons, Alan and Jack Oram of Pelham, NH and three brothers, Bobby, Freddy and George Gibbings. She was preceded in death by her husband, Donald Hansen, parents, Leslie and Marie Gibbings, sisters , Louise Sliwinski , Elaine Cochrane, Jean Galvin , Arlene Sousa, and her brother, Leslie Gibbings.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 24, from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Rd., Bedford, MA 01730. The funeral Mass for Lorraine will be held at 9:00 am on Wednesday, October 25 at St. Michael's Church, 90 Concord Rd., Bedford, MA, to be followed by a reception in the St. Michael's Church Parish Center.
