LaVerne B. Underwood, 94, passed away at Legacy Care in Chelmsford, MA, on November 5th, 2023, peacefully with her 3 children and a daughter-in-law by her side.
She was born on July 8th, 1929 to C. Dorothy and Raymond Baker in Superior, Wisconsin.
When she was very young, they moved to Dunkirk, NY where she grew up.
In 1951, she met, fell in love, and married Max Underwood and they remained in Dunkirk until 1960. That year, they moved with their 3 young children to England for 4 years, where they settled in and made some close friends.
After returning to the US, they made Bedford, Mass their home where they lived for many years. LaVerne was active in Bedford's First Church of Christ, Congregational and the Bedford Women's Club.
She enjoyed reading and was a member of a book club in town. Her greatest joy was her family and before she passed she had the opportunity to spend time with 2 great grandchildren. Her health declined in recent years but she was happy and everyone remembers her smile.
LaVerne was predeceased by a brother, Raymond Baker, her father Raymond Baker, her mother, C. Dorothy Baker, and her husband Max, who passed away in 2016.
Survivors include her 3 children, her daughter, Janet Fogg and husband Gary, son David Underwood and wife Annie Saint-Pierre, son John Underwood and wife Kirsten; 6 grandchildren, Aaron Fogg, Robin Riordan and husband Rob, Laura Underwood, Kenneth Underwood and wife Laura Buzek, James Underwood and wife Erin, Linda (Mae Fogg) Stauder and husband Luke: 2 great grandchildren, Eleanor and Claire; many nieces and nephews and their families.
A memorial service will be held at the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Rd., Bedford, on December 27th at 11:00 AM. There will be time during the service for anyone who would like, to share a memory of LaVerne.
