Obituary

Kenneth T. Pruyn, 87, of Bedford, passed away at home on December 31, 2024 with his loving wife of 65 years, Emily (Miller) at his side.

Ken was the son of the late Howard C. Pruyn and Gertrude (Wheeler) Pruyn Bell and spent his early years in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

He was a graduate of Admiral Farragut Academy in New Jersey and went on to receive his bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (1959). While at RPI, he served as president of the Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity (Alpha Tau Chapter) and it was at a social event at his fraternity house where he met the love of his life, Emily, a nursing student at nearby Russell Sage College.

Following graduation, Ken and Emily were immediately married and he went to work for Fafnir Bearing Company in Connecticut as a mechanical engineer. There he began working with computer systems which became his professional passion. He and Emily moved the family to Bedford in 1962 to pursue a career in the computer industry.

Ken spent most of his professional career as a software engineer, working as an independent contractor and consultant primarily for Raytheon and Digital Equipment Corporation. He also founded The Bedford Group, a computer time-sharing business, and Konelar Corporation, a computer memory sales/repair business.

He had a passion for activities that kept him active and outdoors including flying, boating, motorcycling and playing hockey.

He loved playing the guitar and performing at local farmers markets, studying languages, and in retirement, traveling the world with Emily. He was also involved in the Bedford Council on Aging and the Lexington Chorale. Family and friends will remember him for his heartfelt uproarious laugh and big loving hugs.

Ken was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather. In addition to Emily, he is survived by his son Kristopher F. Pruyn and his wife Laura, his grandchildren Timothy F. Pruyn, Evan J. Pruyn and his fiancée Brianna Bajar, Amanda (Pruyn) and her husband Kyle Russell, Marley Pruyn and her mother Karen Goodwin, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

He is predeceased by his son, K. Theodore Pruyn Jr., and his three older brothers Howard, Edward, and Richard.

A private family memorial will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Bedford Council on Aging, 12 Mudge Way, Bedford.
