Obituary

June A. Puffer, 102, of Acton and formerly of Carlisle, died on August 28, 2018.

She was the last surviving child of nine children born to the late Michael C. and Esther R. O'Brien.

Mrs. Puffer was born and raised in Springfield, where she was a graduate Springfield Technical High School. She went on to attend Wesson School of Nursing in Springfield, earning her diploma in 1940. Upon receiving her diploma, she moved to the Bedford area and began working.

At the end of WWII, she was married to Irvin M. "Puff" Puffer, on February 7, 1946. They had met at Tony's Restaurant in Bedford when he was in the service and she was working at the VA Hospital in Bedford.

Mrs. Puffer worked at the E.N. Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital for many years and retired as head nurse.

In 1962, the family moved from Bedford to Carlisle and lived on Bellows Hill Road for over 50 years.

In her retirement, she enjoyed volunteering at St. Irene Church where she was a daily communicant, volunteered for many committees and cleaned and prepared the altar cloths, linens and flowers. She also decorated the church for Christmas and Easter.

She will always be lovingly remembered by her family for her love and devotion and her special angel food cake and chocolate chip cookies.

She was predeceased by Irvin in 2007 and her siblings, Connie, Dick, Charlie, Al, James, Gerald, Henry and Alicia.

She is survived by her daughter, Carol Casselman of Framingham, grandchildren, Dr. Amy Harley and her husband Ed of Princeton and Dr. Aaron Casselman and his wife Megan of Highlands Ranch, CO and great grandchildren, Owen, Nina and Bodhi Casselman and Ella Harley.

Her funeral will be held from the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Rd., Bedford, on Saturday, September 1, at 9:45 AM, followed by a funeral Mass in St. Irene Church, 187 East St., Carlisle, at 11:00 AM, burial to follow at Green Cemetery, Carlisle. Visitation at the funeral home on Friday, August 31, from 3:00-7:00 PM.
