Obituary

Judy Storer, beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend, passed on peacefully at the Hospice House in Lincoln, Massachusetts, on Tuesday, October 6, 2026, after a brief battle with cancer. She was 85 years old.

Judy was born in Boston, Massachusetts, to Richard and Evelyn (Simmons) Clark. Her ancestors included Mayflower passenger Samuel Fuller, who became the first physician of Plymouth Colony, and William Bradford, who became the 2nd Governor of Plymouth Colony. Her rabble-rousing relatives also participated in the Boston Tea Party in 1773.

She grew up and went to primary school in Waltham. Her family moved to Sudbury, where she attended and then graduated from Lincoln-Sudbury Regional High School. She was an excellent student-athlete and played on the girls' varsity basketball team. She had a reputation as an outstanding jump shooter and became known as “Jumping Judy,” a nickname her family repeated with affection throughout her life.

After graduation, she attended and graduated from the New England Deaconess nursing program in 1962. She worked as a registered nurse at the Boston Children’s Hospital in the surgical and medical emergency areas for several years, as well as at the Waltham Hospital in various medical areas. She also volunteered for the American Red Cross Blood Bank.

She married the late Robert Vose Storer in 1965 and turned her attention to their growing family and civic activities in their hometown of Bedford, Massachusetts.

She was a member of the Bedford Garden Club for 54 years - twice serving as its president. She was instrumental in the creation of the Garden Club Cookbook, which curated members’ favorite recipes and is (unfortunately) out of print and in high demand among the extended family. As a Garden Club member, she took great pride in maintaining and beautifying the island garden at the intersection of Old Billerica Road and Route 62. She started and managed the Bedford Thrift Shop for many years, benefiting the Bedford Public Schools. She was active in a local gourmet group, book club, and various bridge groups. She woke early and stayed up late to drive her kids to hockey, baseball, soccer, and swimming practices and participated in more bake sales to benefit their teams than anyone can count.

She loved gardening and would share dahlia bulbs with you if you’d promise to dig them up again in the fall. Her children fondly remember eating “organic” vegetables straight from the backyard garden before it was trendy. Picking potato bugs off the potato plants and Japanese beetles off raspberry plants was a money-making opportunity when they were young. “Weeding a row of beans” was a frequent punishment when they’d gone astray.

The Storer family spent summers camping all over New England and visiting relatives at the “camp” they’d built with Judy’s father and brother (and their families), in Island Pond, Vermont. One of her favorite vacations, both as a child and a parent, was spending time with her cousins at their family dairy farm in Richford, Vermont.

After her husband’s untimely passing in 1988, she expanded the family’s Island Pond compound by purchasing the farm directly across the street from the Camp. The Farm became a gathering place, attracting friends and family with its solitude and natural beauty. Judy poured her energy into the vegetable and flower gardens and planted sugar maple seedlings on both sides of the driveway. Those thin, wispy maples are now 30’ trees and are a reminder of Judy’s strength, resilience, and grace.

In 1996, she met Bob Ricci, and they spent the next 30+ years together, traveling the world, playing golf and bridge, and enjoying great meals and an occasional scotch Old Fashioned. They spent winters in Naples, Florida, and summers both in Vermont and at Bob’s cottage on Cape Cod. Their travels took them to Japan, China, India, Vietnam, Italy, and Peru, to name just a few.

While traveling brought Judy much joy, she most loved spending time with family and friends. Whether it was a puzzle, a board game, cards, or putting on an apron to cook in the kitchen, Judy loved a crowd. She cherished the time she spent with her eight grandchildren at Camp Grandma JuJu in Vermont, at her home in Bedford, or showing them around Boston for a day.

She is survived by her partner of 30 years, Bob Ricci of Bedford MA, and her four children, Jon Storer and his partner Simone Mordas of Wayland, MA; Jim and Jennifer Storer and their two children Katherine and Emily of Lynnfield, MA; Amy and Steve Odefey and their two children Eliane and Jillian of Hinesburg, VT; and David and Nikki Storer and their four children Olivia, Evelyn, Camilla, and Alden of Cohasset, MA. She is also survived by her brother Rick and Elizabeth Clark of Waterbury, VT, and their children (and grandchildren), Tricia and Geoff Orme (Liam and Elsa) of Victoria, BC; Peter and Lesley Clark (Cam and Hannah) of Stowe, VT; and Debbie and Matt Lowe (Elizabeth) of Calgary, AB. She also leaves her nephew Andrew Miller, his wife Laura McElherne, and their two children Grant and Frannie of Wakefield, MA.

There will be a Celebration of Life on Sunday, November 8, 2026, at Seasons 52, 6 Wayside Rd, Burlington, MA, from 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. All are welcome.

In lieu of flowers, donations in her memory may be made to the Bedford Garden Club, P.O. Box 915, Bedford, MA 01730, to help endow a scholarship in her name. Donations may also be made to the Colorectal Cancer Alliance at colorectalcancer.org.
