Joseph J. Iovanna, 99, of Billerica, died on April 19, 2016.

"Joe" was born in Boston's North End, on December 23, 1916. He was the son of the late Andrea and Luisa Iovanna. He was also the brother of the late Teresina Iovanna, Theresa (Iovanna) Parcella, Lucy Iovanna, Gaetano Iovanna, Raffaele Iovanna, and Michael Iovanna.

He was married to the late Florence (DiSciullo) Iovanna in 1950, and they lived in Newton, MA until Joe's retirement from the Cambridge Redevelopment Authority, at which point they moved to Cotuit, MA. Since moving back to the greater Boston area, Joe has spent most of his time in Bedford.

After graduating from Bentley School of Accounting and Finance (now Bentley University) in 1939, Joe worked as an accountant both in public and private industries. Also, he maintained his own tax preparation business well into his 80's.

Joe is survived by his son Joe Jr. and his wife, Carolyn, of St. Louis, and by his son Paul and his wife, Carol Gallagher, of Chelmsford. He is also survived by his grandchildren Anthony J. Iovanna, and his wife, Jessica, of St. Louis, as well as Andrew W. Iovanna of Boston. Joe was also very proud of his great granddaughters Lucy and Abby, of St. Louis.

His funeral will be held from the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Rd., Bedford, on Monday, April 25, at 8:30 AM, followed by a funeral Mass at St. Malachy Church, 99 Bedford St., in Burlington, at 9:30 AM. Visiting hours will be at the funeral home on Sunday, April 24, from 2:00 to 6:00PM.
