John J. Monaco, 79, of Fort Myers, FL passed away Sunday, October 9, 2016.
Mr. Monaco is survived by his wife of 34 years, Judith A. Monaco; his daughter Carol Monaco and her husband Jim Reisert of Brighton, CO; sons Jack Monaco of Santa Monica, CA, and Mark Monaco of Seattle, WA; sister Eleanor McCabe of North Billerica, MA; brother Jim Edwards and his wife Helen of Salem, NH; stepchildren Karen Hoyt and her husband John of Concord, MA, Stephen Saltzman and his wife Ana of Leonardtown, MD, Lori Smith and her husband Rob of Oakland, CA, and Cheri Morris of Omaha, NE; grandchildren Sarah and Brad Hoyt; Lily, Sam, Katie and Joe Saltzman; Chloe Smith; Chelsea and Austin Mayer, and Connor Morris; as well as many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his first wife, Dorothy Ducey Monaco (d. 1979).
John, son of the late Thomas A. Monaco and late Mildred McSweeny Edwards, was born in Cambridge, MA and resided in Somerville, Lexington, Bedford, Chelmsford, and Nashua, NH before moving to Fort Myers in 2006. He married Dorothy Ducey in 1960 in Charlestown, and completed his engineering degree and MBA at Northeastern University. He married Judy Milligan in 1982 in Bedford; he worked for several years at Hewlett Packard in Waltham, ran his own private consulting firm, traveled extensively for work all over the world, and eventually retired from Champion, Inc.
John enjoyed candlepin bowling in his younger years, winning several championships and a shelf full of trophies; he loved the game of tennis and started as a young adult, playing well into his retirement. He was also an avid card player and especially enjoyed poker.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, October 19, 6:00 pm-8:00pm at the Bedford Funeral home, 167 Great Road, Bedford, MA The funeral Mass will be Thursday, October 20, 10:30am at St. Michael's Catholic Church, 90 Concord Road, Bedford. Interment will follow at Shawsheen Cemetery.
