John T. McQuaid Jr., 80, a long-time resident of Bedford, died on November 30, 2022.

He was the son of the late John T. McQuaid and Mary F. (Burke) McQuaid.

John lived in Bedford since 1950 and was a member of the Bedford High School class of 1960 and was star on the track team, excelling in the 220 and 440 yard distances.

He was extremely proud of his Irish heritage and his service in the U.S. Navy, serving from 1963 to 1967 and was a member of Bedford VFW Post 1628.

For 35 years, he worked at Anderson & McQuaid Inc. in Cambridge as a ripsaw operator.

From his father he inherited a green thumb, he loved to tend to his garden where he grew plants and vegetables and had vast knowledge of horticulture.

Those who knew John always knew when he was in the next room from his booming voice.

He was the father of Patrick McQuaid and his late wife Kathlene of Fitchburg and Sean McQuaid and his partner Shelly of GA, brother of Kevin McQuaid and his wife Linda of Manchester-By-The-Sea, Paul McQuaid of Lowell and his sister Sheila Torigian of Haverhill, uncle of Kate McQuaid, Melissa Davis, Mark Torigian, Laura Torigian and Megan Cleary and grandfather of Lily. He was predeceased by his brother, Brian McQuaid.

Visitation will be held at the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Rd., Bedford, on Sunday, December 4, from 2:00-5:00 PM.

A funeral service will be held at the funeral home on Monday, December 5, at 11:00 AM followed by interment in Shawsheen Cemetery.
