John F. MacQuilken Jr., 79, of Bedford, died peacefully surrounded by family after a courageous battle with brain cancer on August 22, 2015.
He was born in Boston on September 8, 1935, and he was the son of the late John F. and Gertrude (Gilday) MacQuilken.
He was raised in Roslindale and was a graduate of Roslindale High School, Class of 1954. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the Army and served during the Korean Conflict for four years.
After leaving the service, he went to work for RCA and enrolled at Northeastern University taking evening classes in electrical engineering. He graduated with his degree in electrical engineering. His first job out of college was working on the Apollo Lunar Module at RCA. While at RCA, he also worked on the opening of Walt Disney World. He retired from Fidelity Investments.
A Bedford resident since 1968, he was a member of St. Michael Parish and Past Grand Knight of the Knights of Columbus Council #5292. He loved the Patriots, The Red Sox and the beach. He was also a talented photographer who loved taking pictures of his beloved family and their gatherings.
Mr. MacQuilken is survived by his wife of 53 years, Claire (Jack) MacQuilken, four children, David of Dallas, TX, Karen of Acton, Kathleen French of Shirley and Elizabeth of Littleton, his sister, Mary Haley of Hingham, and brother, Edward and his wife, Nancy of Foxboro, three grandchildren, Jelanie and Sulena French and Maxim MacQuilken and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sisters, Beverly Caroto and her husband Joseph and Janet Hoffman and her husband Dean and son-in-law, Harry French.
His funeral will be held from the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Rd., Bedford, on Wed., Aug. 26, at 8:00 A.M. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Michael Church, 90 Concord Rd., Bedford, at 9:00 A.M. visitation will be held at the funeral home on Tuesday, Aug. 25, from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M.
Interment will be Shawsheen Cemetery in Bedford.
