John D. Barnett, 69, of Bedford Massachusetts, passed away at home on October 28, 2015.

He was born in Concord to William H. Barnett and Flora E. Brigham Barnett and was the youngest of four children.

While serving in the Bedford Post Office for more than 30 years, he became a well-known friend to most in his beloved home town. Early on he also worked as a chef and had his own landscaping company. In his earlier years he took interest in motorcycles.

He married Nancy Alice Adams Goss in the early 70's. They had a son, Edward, and John welcomed his two stepchildren, Rhonda and Paul Goss.

His passion as a gardener then flourished.

In '86, John and Nancy divorced and he continued to work as a mailman and directed traffic part-time. Well known in town for his coffee runs, love for scratch tickets, joking character, great demeanor and integrity, John was loved by all who met him.

He is survived by his brother William (Bill) Barnett, his sister Constance (Connie) Ashworth, son Edward (Eddie) Barnett, Eddie's wife, Jacki, and their children Maxwell and Morgan Barnett. Especially close family who need to be acknowledged for all their love and support for John over the years are his nephews Tom and Jeff Barnett and Tom's wife, Denise.

There will be a burial service on Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at Shawsheen Cemetery, located at 15 Shawsheen Road, Bedford, MA. Reception details to follow.
