John L. Andrews' Obituary
John Lewis Andrews, 87 years old, of Bedford MA, passed away Saturday, June 7, 2014.
John was born November 11,1926, in Middleton Mass. He was the son of the late Guy William Andrews and Isabelle (Durkee) Andrews of Middleton Mass. He was one of eight children until his mother died in childbirth and the family was separated. He attended Middleton schools, later moving to Medford, MA and then to Milton, New Hampshire. He worked on and off the farms until he worked at the Portsmouth Navy Yard in Portsmouth N.H.
In 1944, he enlisted in the Navy and served in Okinawa and World War II. He received honorable discharge in 1946 as Machinists Mate Third Class. He was married for 65 years, marrying the love of his life, wife Lillian in 1949 and built their own home which gave them so much pleasure. He was a member of Grace Chapel and was on the baptism team and many years as an usher.
He was a master upholsterer, he began his career at John C. Keefe upholstery in Wellesley and later established his own company in Bedford. He loved his family and enjoyed traveling to visit them; music, singing and family get-togethers. Above all John loved and cherished his family and his friends.
He will be deeply missed by his wife of 65 years, Lillian (Swain) Andrews. His daughters, Deborah L. Scott and her husband Harry of Lexington, Beverly J. Valliere of Georgia, Joy M. Coonradt and her husband Brian. He is remembered also by his grandchildren, Dana and (Laura), Timothy, Matthew and (Jen) Scott. David and Mary Valliere. Miranda and John Eli Andrews. Jacob, Brent and Victoria Rose Coonradt. A great grandchild Aristotle Scott. He also will be remembered by Lillian's brother and sister-in-law Kenneth and Myrtle Swain. He was predeceased by son John L. Andrews II.
Funeral services will be held Grace Chapel 59 Worthen Road, Lexington Massachusetts on Monday June 16th at 11 A.M.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to New England Frontier Camp P.O. Box 72 Lovell Maine 04051.
