Jean A. Cushman, 85, of Concord, died on April 5, 2016, at her Concord home surrounded by her loving family and caregivers.

Mrs. Cushman was born in Boston on January 3, 1931, and she was the daughter of the late James J. and Alice (Mitchell) Gallery of Milton.

She was raised in Milton and was a member of the Class of 1948. She was active in sports and student life at Milton High School and made many devoted friends, especially Ed Finnerty, Fudgie and, Joan Dragon Manning. After high school, she worked in Boston with the investment banking firm of White Weld & Co. as administrative assistant to the president of the firm.

In May of 1954, she married the love of her life, John P. Cushman at St. Agatha Church in Milton. Together they raised six children in Bedford and continued to make many Cedar Ridge drive neighborhood friends, as well as the ever-popular Social Club bunch. They were inseparable until Jack's death at age 59 while vacationing in Florida post retirement. She was the light of his life, and he was the love of hers. She wore his wedding ring until her last days.

Mrs. Cushman, resilient and independent as ever,returned to Bedford to be closer to her family and began working at Mitre as an executive secretary. She embraced computers and the ever changing technology as she worked with scientists and complex problems. She retired from MITRE after over a decade and moved to West Concord. While living in Concord she enjoyed volunteering at the Concord Council on Aging and at the Emerson Hospital Gift Shop.

She is survived by her children Mary Pavlik of Boxborough, John Cushman of Belmont, DeeDee Kosky of Florida, Jay Cushman of Alabama and Nancy Soar of Lancaster, MA. and brothers, Richard and David Gallery of Milton, nine grandchildren, Timothy Pavlik and Beth Pavlik Clark, Mackenzie and Liam Cushman, Joanna, Bobby and Johnny Hastry, Jackie and Justin Kosky and great grandson, Colin Graham Clark.
She was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Laurie Hastry in 2013 and her beloved son-in-law Don Soar in 2014 as well as her older brother James Gallery.

Her funeral will be held from the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Rd., Bedford, on Sat., April 9 at 8:00 A.M. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Michael Church, 90 Concord Rd., Bedford at 9:00 A.M.
Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, April 8, from 4:00 to 7:00 P.M.
