Obituary

Deacon Henry A. Gardyna passed away peacefully on April 17, 2025, at the David James Hospice Unit at the EN Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford, Massachusetts, at the age of 90.

Born in Lynn, MA, Henry spent much of his life in Cambridge and Wareham, MA, always surrounded by the love of his family and the strength of his faith.

A proud veteran, Henry served honorably during the Korean War, stationed in Washington, D.C. Following his service, he dedicated his career to helping others, first as a biochemist at the Boston Medical Lab in Waltham, and later, answering a deeper calling, as a social worker with Catholic Charities, where he made a profound difference in countless lives until his retirement.

Henry was the devoted husband of the late Elena Gardyna and the beloved father of Elena Palmer, JoAnne Lynch and the late Stephanie Gardyna.  He was a cherished grandfather to the late Nicholas Cammarata, Alexandra Greenberg, and Joseph Ellison, proud great-grandfather to Jack and Beau Greenberg and loving brother of Peter Gardyna and his wife Joan Prevett.

He lived a life of purpose, service, and compassion—always putting others before himself and giving back to his community. His early days spent boating and fishing with family in Assonet, MA were among his most treasured memories, reflecting the quiet joy he found in nature and togetherness.

A private memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly asks that donations be made to the "David James Hospice, Unit 2C" at the EN Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital, 200 Springs Rd., Bedford, MA 01730, in honor of Henry's life and legacy.
