Harry B. "Hal" Farrington, 88, of Lexington, died unexpectedly on January 18, 2025.

Hal was born in Arlington, Mass. on February 19, 1936, and was the son of the late P. George and Esther M. (Burgess) Farrington.

He was a graduate of Somerville High School and earned an associate degree in computer technology.

In October of 1956, Hal volunteered for service in the Army and became a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Division, stationed at Fort Bragg, North Carolina.

In the early 1960s, he worked as a DJ at a radio station in Vermont, spinning music from the big band era and hosting reruns of serial radio programs from the'20s and '30s where he developed a love of music. More recently, he hosted an internet radio station in Somerville.

His career in computer programming led to the development of increased security and data recovery and protection in the banking industry. He worked for Bay Bank for many years and electronic funds transfer and ATM machines became a reality with his technology.  He retired in 1999.

A resident of Lexington since 1964, he enjoyed hiking, writing short stories, dancing, caring for his dogs and backyard birds, and spending time at the community center. He was an avid Red Sox fan who loved listening to the games over the radio and teaching his daughter how to score the games.

He will be remembered as a devoted husband, a loving father, and a master of "dad" puns and jokes.

He is survived by his wife, Rita (Manni) Farrington and his daughter Dr. Linda Farrington of Woonsocket, RI. He was predeceased by his sister, Sally Rosa.
