Harry R. Barker, Jr., 89, of Bedford, MA, beloved husband, father and grandfather passed away on June 21, 2012 following a brief illness.

Mr. Barker was born in Medford, on May 9, 1923, to the late Harry R. and Mary (Fallon) Barker. He was raised in Natick and Wellesley and was a graduate of Wellesley High School, Class of 1941. He attended Boston College beginning in 1941, but his education was interrupted when he enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1943. While in the Army, he studied at MIT where he received training as a meteorologist. During the war he served in North Africa and Iran. In 1946 he was honorably discharged as a first lieutenant and he returned to his studies at Boston College from which he graduated in 1948 with a BS in Physics.

He spent his career working in the defense industry, with the bulk of his career working at Raytheon Corporation. He retired from Raytheon in 1992. In his retirement he worked as a volunteer at the Bedford Community Table/Pantry for 15 years.

Harry married Annette (Mulcahy) in 1951 and after a brief period living in Boston, they moved to Bedford in 1952 to raise a family. He was a member of St. Michael Parish for 60 years.

Mr. Barker is survived by his wife of 60 years, Annette, and by his children and their families, Richard Barker and his wife, Laurie and their daughters, Katie and Emma of Chelmsford; Linda Couto and her husband, Joe of Philadelphia, PA and their children Nicole and Tyler; Douglas Barker and his wife, Susan Whoriskey and their daughters, Anna and Juliet of Belmont; Jan Penagos and her husband, Roldan and their children, Dylan and Siena of Menlo Park, CA and one brother, Joseph Barker of Dennis. He was predeceased by his daughter, Susan G. Barker and his brother, Robert.

Visitation will be held at the funeral home Sunday, June 24, from 2:00 to 5:00 P.M.
His funeral will be held from the funeral home on Monday, June 25, at 8:00 A.M. followed by a funeral Mass in St. Michael Parish, 90 Concord Rd., Bedford, at 9:00 A.M.
Interment will be in Shawsheen Cemetery in Bedford.
