George Gordon Gatchell Jr., passed away on May 7, 2012, at the age of 82.

Gordon was born on February 26, 1930, in Baltimore, Maryland. He graduated from St. Paul's School in Brooklandville, MD in 1949. He went to Johns Hopkins University for a year and a half before his Marine Corps Reserve unit was activated. He was sent to Korea and was in the Battle of the Chosin Reservoir in 1950.

Later stationed in Philadelphia, PA, Gordon met and married Esther "Essie" Allen MacLea, of Lincoln, MA in 1953.

After graduating from Babson College, Gordie spent his entire career working as an account executive at Merrill Lynch in Boston before retiring in 1989. Gordon and Essie lived for 50 years in Lincoln, MA and spent many happy summers at their cottage on the Mill Pond in Chatham, MA.

Gordie was an active member of the Massachusetts Society of the Cincinnati and an Associate of their standing committee for many years. He was also a proud member of the Chosin Few. An avid tennis player, Gordie played in, and won many tournaments in Lincoln. Gordon was also the fourth great grandson of President James Monroe.

Gordie was an outgoing person with a gentle, quiet way and will be sorely missed by his family and friends.

He is survived by his wife, Essie of 59 years of Bedford, MA; his daughter, Elizabeth Emory of Dennis, MA; his son, William and his wife, Laurie of Maynard, MA; granddaughter Reva and her husband Eytan Navah of Sebastopol, CA; grandson Jared Batterman; and brothers, Richard Gatchell of Ruxton, MD and Tyler Gatchell of Whitestone, VA. His beloved daughter, Catharine LaTour of California predeceased him in 2005.
