Gary D. DeDeo, 79, of Billerica, died October 4, 2025, after a long illness. He passed away at home with family members at his side.

He was the son of the late Rudolph and Anna Carolyn DeDeo and grew up in East Boston. He attended Charlestown High School, where he played hockey, and completed a post-graduate year at Newman Preparatory School before earning a scholarship to Alderson Broaddus University in Philippi, West Virginia.

At Alderson Broaddus, he played soccer and participated in organizing the Moratorium to End the War in Vietnam. Despite leaving the university prior to graduation, he was an active member of its alumni network for many decades, earning induction into the school's E.J. Willis Society. After leaving Alderson Broaddus, he returned to Massachusetts and completed his Bachelor of Science degree in history at Boston State University.

Over the years, Gary worked as a technician and hardware engineer at a number of companies, including Mass General Hospital and Sonitrol Alarm Systems. He spent the majority of his career at ATEX Media Solutions, a supplier of computer hardware and software for the newspaper industry, and later in life at Broadcast Pix, producers of audiovisual systems for streaming live content.

Gary remained active throughout his life. He and his wife Susan were avid skiers from the start of their relationship, traveling on weekends to the North Conway area and eventually purchasing a second home in Bridgton, Maine, where they skied at Pleasant Mountain with their children and extended family. Beloved as "Uncle Gary" by his many nieces and nephews, he was the family's go-to guy for adjusting ski bindings before a trip up north.

Gary played recreational hockey in his twenties and early thirties and continued to socialize with other former members of the East Boston Clippers hockey team throughout his life. However, soccer ultimately became his favorite sport. He coached youth soccer teams for the Billerica Youth Soccer Association for many years and played on recreational teams until his seventies.

He was a creative and enthusiastic cook, enjoyed visiting breweries and coffee shops, liked both attending plays at the American Repertory Theater and watching Leave It to Beaver reruns, and traveled regularly to Ogunquit, Maine. Above all, he loved spending time with his family and especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren in his retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Susan (Bishop) DeDeo, his daughter, Carrie-Anne DeDeo of Somerville, his son, Scot DeDeo of Belmont, his daughter-in-law, Amy DeDeo, and his grandchildren, Neil and Nat DeDeo. He was predeceased by his brother, Leonard DeDeo.

Funeral services for Susan and Gary will be held on Saturday, November 22, at 11:30am at St. Paul's Church, 100 Pine Hill Road, in Bedford, Massachusetts, with burial to follow at Woodlawn Cemetery in Everett.
