Fred A. Blacquier, age 94 and a long-time resident of Carlisle, passed away at Lahey Hospital in Burlington on September 9, 2022.

Fred was born on March 19, 1928, to Eugene Blacquier, Sr., from Prince Edward Island, Canada, and Annie (Lamb) Blacquier from London, England. He grew up in Cambridge, MA, and as a child was active in the Boy Scouts, and enjoyed camping and bicycling. After graduating from Rindge Technical School in Cambridge, Fred enlisted in the US Navy and was trained in servicing Navy radars.

He served on the USS Bushnell, a submarine tender stationed in Hawaii. After serving in the military, Fred studied at Northeastern University, earning an Associate of Science degree. He went on to work as a technician at MIT's Lincoln Lab, and later as a Field Service Engineer at Ampex Recorder Company, followed by a position in the Medical Division of Hewlett Packard where he was employed as a Technical Writer, producing manuals and data sheets.

Fred married his loving wife, the late Veronica (Aslanian) Blacquier in 1958 in Cambridge, MA. In 1961, Fred and Veronica moved to Carlisle and soon added their son, Alan, to their family.

Fred, Veronica, and Alan enjoyed many happy times together as a young family, spending summers camping and traveling. In his later years, Fred and Veronica taught together at a preschool at their church in Inman Square, Cambridge. After the passing of Veronica in 2003, Fred continued to reside in Carlisle, helping to raise his granddaughter, Zoe Blacquier, whom he adored. Zoe graduated from Concord-Carlisle High School, and later the University of Southern Maine majoring in Public Health.

Fred remained active well into his senior years and enjoyed long walks around the Carlisle Cranberry Bog and other local hiking spots and camping on the Cape. He enjoyed visits with friends and neighbors over a cup of tea and gathering with friends and family during the holidays or at summer get-togethers.

Fred is survived by his son Alan Blacquier of Arizona and his granddaughter Zoe Blacquier of Maine. He was predeceased by his parents Eugene Sr. and Annie Blacquier, his wife Veronica Blacquier, his brother, Eugene (Gene) Blacquier, Jr., and his sisters Mildred Williams and Anne Lillian Koch. Fred is also survived by many sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, and many nieces and nephews and their families.

A funeral service will be held at the Bedford Funeral Home, 167 Great Rd., Bedford, on Saturday, September 24, at 10:00 AM.
