Obituary

Ewen Wilton Urquhart passed suddenly on Wednesday, September 18, 2024 at the age of 91. He had just finished doing what he loved most, swimming. He will be remembered by his family as a generous, loving, hardworking man who always put his family first.

Ewen was born on January 19, 1933 in Boston to Fraser Alexander and Nellie (Wilton) Urquhart. He was raised in Watertown, MA with his four siblings, Robert, Fraser "Bebe", Donald and Mary. He attended Watertown High School where he was a standout track star. From 1951-1955 Ewen served his country in the U.S. Air Force and was stationed in Greenland during the Korean Conflict.  He returned to Watertown where he met his beloved wife of 69 years, Mary Jane (Reuell) Urquhart. After they married, Ewen attended and graduated from Northeastern University and had a long career as an Industrial Engineer with Honeywell.

Ewen and Mary Jane raised their six children in Bedford, MA where they lived until his passing. He was a committed and deeply involved husband, father, grandfather and uncle. Whether it was helping with homework, swimming at the beach, family dinners or travelling abroad, Ewen was happiest when he was spending time with his family. He was an active member of Newton Presbyterian Church, where he also served as a Deacon. In his retirement, Ewen enjoyed spending his free time swimming, golfing, skiing and playing tennis. He shared his love of learning, his openness to new experiences, his listening ear, and his passion for meaningful work with everyone who's life he touched.  He will be missed for his positive outlook, stable guidance, and humor.

He is survived by his loving wife, Mary Jane (Reuell) Urquhart, his children Gary (Beth) Urquhart of Maynard, MA, Douglas Urquhart of Carlise, MA, David (Kim) Urquhart of Weston, FL, Matthew (Kathleen) Urquhart of Sarasota, FL, Heidi Melvin-Urquhart of Bedford, MA, Heather (Jeff) Patterson of Bedford, MA, along with his nephew Barry (Lori) Urquhart of Salisbury, MA and loving sister, Mary Yankowski of The Villages, FL.  He also leaves behind his beloved grandchildren Jessica Urquhart, Cassandra Urquhart, Kelly Urquhart, Caitlyn Urquhart, Michael Urquhart, Christian Urquhart, Madison Patterson, Ashley Urquhart-Venuto, Mason Urquhart, Paige Patterson, Chloe Melvin and Carter Melvin, as well as many nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his parents, Fraser and Nellie Urquhart, his three brothers, Robert, Fraser "Bebe", and Donald, his sister-in-law, Joyce Overoye, and his adored grandson, Jared K. Patterson.
