A lifelong resident of Bedford, Massachusetts, Eleanor Irene Demirjian Tatosian passed away on August 30, 2026, at the age of 102, of natural causes.

Born to Jack and Mary Demirjian in Newton, Massachusetts, Eleanor went to public schools in Newton Centre and graduated from Newton High School in 1941. She attended Simmons College from 1941 to 1945 and received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in English. Eleanor worked in book publishing in Boston and New York City, where she married her late husband, Haig Tatosian.

Eleanor, Haig, and their two young children, David and Jean, moved from New York to Bedford, Massachusetts in 1956, where she became involved in town affairs shortly thereafter. She was instrumental in forming the Bedford Community Kindergarten which ran for 15 years until public kindergartens were available statewide.

Eleanor went on to be a founding member of the Bedford Council on Aging. She was a long-time member of the Bedford Garden Club. She was a featured writer for the Bedford Minuteman Newspaper, and she taught tennis classes for the Bedford Recreation Department for town residents. She was a voracious reader and a quiet patron of the Bedford Public Library. In earlier years when her children were school aged, she was an active member of the First Church of Christ, Congregational in Bedford.

Eleanor was a staunch supporter of the Citizen’s Scholarship Foundation of Bedford (CSF), a scholarship awards program for Bedford graduating seniors. When her husband died in 1998, she endowed a permanent scholarship in his name for students who demonstrate exemplary community service.

Eleanor leaves behind her son David Tatosian and wife Carol of Stow, her daughter Jean Tatosian Amato and husband Robert of Bedford; her four grandchildren Daniel Tatosian, Douglas Tatosian, Mark Amato and Katherine Amato Brown; her seven great grandchildren Dylan and Ethan Tatosian, Alec and Stella Tatosian, Eleanor Amato, and Finn and Annie Amato Brown; her sister Norma Barmakian of Westwood and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by brother David Demirjian and niece Lisa Demirjian Saunders.
