Edwin B. Cox, 95, born on April 3, 1930 in Germantown Hospital in Philadelphia, died peacefully on September 12, 2025, following a brief illness.

He was raised in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and was the son of the late George and Lourea (Wessels) Cox.

Ed received his Bachelor's Degree from the University of Pennsylvania in 1951 and after serving in the Air Force, received his PhD in Economics in 1960, also from the University of Pennsylvania where he taught Statistics at the Wharton School.

He met his wife, Myrtle Yates, while at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base near Dayton Ohio.  The young Ed, with a Congregationalist/Quaker background, fell in love with the young lady, one of six children from the farm, with a Methodist/Presbyterian background. They recently celebrated their 69th wedding anniversary.

While Ed taught statistics, Myrtle was teaching in an elementary school in Philadelphia, until she became pregnant and was told she could no longer teach.  Edwin Jr. was born in Philadelphia in January 1959.  In 1960 with a doctorate in hand, Ed and family moved to Waltham, Massachusetts with an appointment to Boston University's business school faculty.  Their son, David, was born in May 1961.

By 1968, Ed had become a tenured full professor at Boston University and Assistant Dean of the business school.  Myrtle earned her Master's in Education  while teaching in public schools.  They moved to Lexington in 1963 and then into their home of 18 years in 1968.  Ed moved from teaching to consulting at Arthur D. Little in Cambridge until 1986.  He returned to Boston University where he retired in 1992.  During much of this time he was on the Board of Directors of Lexington Savings Bank.

While empty nesters, they moved to a condominium at Potter Pond in Lexington in 1984 where they lived until moving to Carleton-Willard Village in 2010 where they have lived since.  They were members of Hancock Church in Lexington since 1961.

He is survived by his wife, Myrtle Y. Cox, his sons Edwin B. Cox Jr. and David G. Cox, his grandchildren Sarah Cole, Ashley Cox, Corey Cox and Meghan Cox and three great grandchildren.

A memorial service will be held at the Carleton-Willard Village, 100 Old Billerica Rd., Bedford, MA, on Saturday, October 4, 2025 at 10:30 AM.
