Obituary

Edward W. Hughes, Jr., died on August 18, 2018.

Ed grew up in West Concord, MA, as the youngest son after 4 daughters. He attended Concord-Carlisle High School where he excelled in track. He then joined the Air Force and was a star softball player. After his service, he worked as a dental equipment repair technician in Boston, then as a machinist in the model shop at Digital Equipment Corp, until he retired after 25 years.

Ed was a kind, generous, gregarious family man who loved any kind of social gathering with his extensive family and friends. He enjoyed dancing, cooking for a crowd, camping, travel and was an avid skier. He loved his tools and could often be found tinkering in the garage, building furniture, or maintaining and improving his home and yard.

His love of travel took him to Jamaica, Antigua, Mexico, across the country with Am Track, the Grand Canyon, New Orleans, and more. He was always ready for an adventure with ski club friends, skiing in Switzerland, Aspen, Park City, Banff, Whistler and on many other New England and western slopes.

Ed's loving spirit, brilliant blue eyes and constant smile will be dearly missed and forever remembered.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth A. (Kavanaugh) Hughes, his children, Kent Gale, Carolyn Wilson, Paul Gale, Ronald Hughes and Jennifer Caruthers and 10 grandchildren. Predeceased by his siblings, Edith Vigliotti, Ruthe Hilfrety, Pearle Gentry and Barbara Woodward.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
