Obituary

Douglas Malcolm MacArthur, 70, of Nashua, New Hampshire, passed away on December 30, 2025.

He was the beloved son of the late Alexander and Norma (Porter) MacArthur. Douglas, known to most as Doug, was raised in Bedford and was a graduate of Bedford High School, where he was a member of the marching band and played soccer. Following graduation, he briefly attended Middlesex Community College. While there, he met his first wife, Laura, and together they moved to Chelmsford to raise their three children. Doug was a devoted and loving father who rarely missed a sporting event or dance recital, and he took great pride in coaching many of his sons' teams.

Doug later moved to Nashua, NH, where he met his late wife, Kathleen "Kathy" (Williamson) MacArthur. He embraced Kathy's family as his own, and together they shared many cherished moments kayaking, camping, taking summer vacations to Cape Cod, and enjoying sunsets from their back deck. They shared a passion for cheering on New England's sports teams, and Doug especially treasured his Sundays in the fall watching the New England Patriots play.

For the past 20 years, Doug worked as a communications engineer at Hanscom Air Force Base. Here he made countless friendships and was beloved by all that knew him.

In his most recent years, some of Doug's happiest moments were spent cooking alongside his beloved late wife, Kathy and making memories with his grandchildren. Weekends were spent driving to wherever the next grandchild's sporting event was and planning the menu for the week with Kathy- a tradition they both loved. Whenever "Grampa" came to visit, the house brimmed with excitement because the kids knew their favorite playmate had arrived. He was always down on the floor joining in their games, playing dress-up, or outside kicking or tossing a ball around. Doug's heart belonged to his family; they were, without question, his greatest joy.

He was predeceased by his wife, Kathleen MacArthur, in March of 2025, and by his brother, Robert MacArthur, in January of 2025.

Douglas is survived by his sister, Susan Copeland and her husband Dale of Nashua NH, children: Scott MacArthur and his wife Erica of Chelmsford, MA; Katie Porcaro and her husband Michael of Boise, ID; David MacArthur and his wife Brittany of Litchfield, NH; Michael Fraser and his wife Rebecca of Haverhill, MA; Megan Thomson and her husband John of Silver Lake, NH; and George Fraser and his wife Megan of Plaistow, NH. He is also survived by his 14 grandchildren: Dylan, Alana, and Dani Fraser; Adam MacArthur; Julia, Samantha, and Addison Thomson; Devin Porcaro; Maggie, George III, and Charlotte Fraser; and Carlee, Bodie, and Josie MacArthur, and his great-granddaughter, Josephine, as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins.

He is further survived by his first wife Laura Groele and her husband Jack and their daughter Jamie of Chelmsford, MA , also a coworker and dear friend Omisi "Missy" Agbe-Rankhe of Lowell, MA.
