Dorothea Wood Webster of Carleton-Willard Village, Bedford, MA passed away on April 22, 2020 of a respiratory illness. She was 96 years old.

Dorothea was born March 18 1924 in Chicago IL, daughter of Henrietta McLeod Norton Wood and Jeffery Malcom Duff Wood. Soon thereafter, the family moved to Montreal, Canada where she was educated at the Trafalgar School for Girls and enjoyed competitive sailing on the St Lawrence river. She subsequently left Montreal to attend Smith College majoring in history and graduating with a BA in 1945.

Shortly thereafter she was married to Lt. (J.G.) Curvin H. Stein of Lockhaven, PA on May 23, 1945 in Toronto, Canada. The couple moved to Sarnia, Ontario, Canada where she gave birth to three children: John, Peter and Anne Stein.

After the sudden death of her husband Curvin in 1959 Dorothea moved the family to La Canada, CA where she met Dr. Edward W. Webster of Bedford, MA. They were married on June 24, ^th 1961 In Los Angeles and settled the combined family in Lexington, MA which included two sons, Edward and Mark from the widowed Dr. Webster's first marriage along with Dorothea's three children. A daughter, Susan was born to the couple in 1962 complementing the blended family. Ted and Dorothea enjoyed traveling to many foreign countries in Europe, Asia, South America and Africa. One of her favorite memories was dancing the night away in Rio de Janeiro with Dad. Another was crossing the international date line on the Pacific Ocean in a ship the evening of her birthday March 18th - therefore being able to celebrate her birthday two days in a row! In 1977, the couple moved their family to Wayland, MA, finally relocating to Carleton-Willard Village in Bedford, MA in 2002 for retirement. Dr. Webster succumbed to Alzheimer's disease on December 17, 2005.

One of Dorothea's proudest accomplishments was serving as President of the Massachusetts General Hospital Service League which helped find housing and schools as well as other services for the doctors and their families from the US and many foreign countries who came to teach or learn at MGH.

Dorothea studied painting at the DeCordova Museum in Lincoln, Ma. She was an artist who painted watercolors that were displayed in the hallways of Carleton-Willard Village. She also made gift cards of her paintings that were sold in the Carleton-Willard Gift Shop. Proceeds were donated to Carleton-Willard's hospice and employee appreciation funds. She mastered the crosswords and double crossword puzzles in the Sunday New York Times Magazine, read four books a week and often voiced strong political opinions. Dorothea was elected by her community to represent them at monthly meetings with staff and often influenced changes to improve the quality of life for all of the residents.  She enjoyed spending time with her friends and family.

Dorothea is survived by John Webster and his wife Penny of Milford, NH; Anne Wolfe and her husband John of Mahwah, NJ; Edward Webster and his wife Lisa of Harpswell, ME; Mark Webster and his wife Marilyn of LaCrosse, WI; and Susan MacPhee and her husband John of Bedford, MA; 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her son Peter.

A memorial service will be held at Carleton-Willard Village at a later date followed by a graveside service at the Shawsheen Cemetery, also in Bedford.
