Doris "Mickey" (Stetser) Webber of Bedford, 91, died on January 1, 2019 after a brief stay at Emerson Hospital. She was born on April 4, 1927 and spent her first 20 years in Pennington, NJ. Upon graduating from high school, Mickey enrolled in the WWII -inspired Nurse Cadet Corps and graduated as an RN from Abington Hospital in Pennsylvania. Her first assignment brought her to the Bedford VA hospital in 1949 where she met Bedford native and WWII veteran Abbott Reed Webber. Mickey and Reed were married soon thereafter, and Mickey became a mainstay in the community for almost 70 years.

After raising three sons, Mickey ran a licensed daycare facility out of her home in Bedford for nearly 20 years. Known as "Mae" or Grammie Mae," Mickey was a surrogate grandmother for nearly 150 children, and stayed in touch with nearly all of her "kids" throughout the years.

Mickey was extremely active in community and church affairs. The Bedford Women's Community Club, the League of Women Voters, and the Cub Scouts were just a few of the civic organizations that benefited from her organizational and leadership skills. She extended that same passion and commitment to the First Church of Christ Congregational. As a church member, Mickey helped to start or organize numerous fundraising and youth activities. Notably, Mickey and her late husband Reed, along with friends from other local parishes, started the Fawn Lake Easter Sunrise Service, an annual event that has withstood the test of time for over 60 years.

Mickey was also very involved with Emerson Hospital. She was a staff nurse at Emerson for many years and was instrumental in founding the Emerson Auxiliary. Mickey also served for 20 years as an Emerson Hospital Corporator, representing Bedford as an ambassador to the hospital.

Mickey was predeceased by her husband Abbott Reed Webber II and her brother William Stetser. She is survived by her sons William Scott, Todd S. and Glenn R. Webber; her daughter in law Margo Thornton Webber; her sister Barbara Pratt; and her grandsons Jason Clark, Alex Reed and Kip Edward Webber.

A celebration of Mickey's life will be held at the First Church of Christ, Congregational, 25 The Great Rd., Bedford, MA 01730 on Saturday., April 6, at 2:00 P.M.
