Obituary

Dr. Doris Norman PhD passed away peacefully Sunday August 12th, 2018 in Redding, Connecticut.

She was born May 10th, 1929 to the late Wade and Anna Sewell in Rocky Mount, North Carolina. She was one of 13 children.

She spent much of her life dedicated to higher education, graduating with a bachelors degree from Bennett College, a Masters degree in Education from Boston University, a second Masters degree in Native American studies from Harvard University , and a Doctorate in Counselling Psyc- hology from Boston University. For many years, she was a professor of counseling psychology at the University of Massachusetts Boston.

She and her husband, the late noted cardiovascular surgeon Dr. John C. Norman MD, lived in Concord, Massachusetts for over 40 years. She was the proprietor of Many Nations Trading Post from 1980 until 2011, first in Marlborough, and later at 19 Main Street in Concord. She travelled across North America purchasing wares directly from native artists and participating in native cultural events.
She is survived by her daughter, Jill Norman, her son-in-law Sam Fouad, and two grand-children Noah and Mickaela Fouad.

A graveside service will be held on Thursday, August 16th at new section of Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, 361 Bedford St., in Concord, Massachusetts.
